First minted in 1986, the US Gold Eagle coin is an official gold coin of the United States. It was authorized under the Gold Bullion Act of 1985, and originally was available in many denominations.

This is a unique coin because the US Gold Eagle is the only gold bullion coin verified to have a true gold weight. This coin must contain only American gold. This is a nice coin to add to any collection, and this has a lot of meaning when it comes to gold coin collections.

The US Gold Eagle comes in four various sizes which are: 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce and 1 ounce of real gold. This coin is verified to have the exact weight.

A copper and silver metallic alloy is applied to the US Gold Eagle as a treatment which gives the coin weatherproof protection. Constructed of 22 carat gold, the Gold Eagle has over .916 solid gold content.

On the other side of the coin, Miley Busiek designed a male eagle with an olive branch. The eagle is flying around a nest that has a female eagle and her recently hatched baby birds in it.

A United States Gold Eagle coin has a value equal to its gold content and not the face denomination of the coin. The coins are available in four different sizes which have face denominations of $5, $10, $20 or $50. The amount of gold content in each coin then determines its current market price, which fluctuates. Right now the market price is $110, $225, $450 and $900 for the different sizes.

Initially it had roman numeral dates, but the U.S. Mint changed in 1992 to Arabic numbers. Although every US Gold Eagle coin is the same, the weight and face value engraved on the opposite side is different.

If you collect coins and want something to invest in, consider the US Gold Eagle. More than three hundred years ago they were created to conform to the standards of the day, and in after many years they’ll still be in top condition. It’s guaranteed by the U.S. Mint to match its content and weight of gold.
